Junk Food

Over 25 years ago I worked for a small company, in a professional office environment. I was friendly with my

co-workers, but at that time I had a small child so we didn't hang out after work. All of my colleagues were very nice and we occasionally had lunch together, but we weren't on an extreme personal basis. One of my colleagues was in his early 20's and he stocked our office freezer with frozen peas. I didn't want to pry so I didn't think anything of it, perhaps he was on some sort of diet. This was during a time where people could smoke in their offices and I tried to always avoid that by staying closer to the front of the office and keeping to myself. One day when I passed by his office a bag of frozen peas was laying on top of his desk. I minded my business, until the next day it happened again. On the second day, I could not hold my curiosity in, so I inquired why he had bags of peas on his desk each day that week. Keeping in mind that we were not on a personal life sharing basis, but he answered me. I am sure he could see the shock on my face when he told me that he (in his early twenties) had recently been circumcised and the doctor required that he keep ice on it for two weeks every day! I am certain my face turned ten shades of red and I quickly learned not to ask questions that seemed simple... you never know what kind of answer you will get.
